I am decent beginner to average Super Street Fighter player (meaning my RYU & Chun Lee are a “B” ranking, but I dont have a ton of player points yet as I have not played it for too long & have only had the stick for 3 weeks) & bought the stick to avoid the Haduken cramps & try to get my rank up from Lower B rank I seem to b stuck in.. The PROS of the stick are obvious….. 1st off repetitive moves are less stressful on the thumbs, The buttons are solid & seem to function with authentic arcade integrity being full Sanwa (buttons return to normal position without a lag & stick feels quality made like your holding a mini arcade in your lap)).. The artwork is pretty yet not over the top & the compartment for the Nice length USB port is cool because the Stick looks nice with it tucked away neatly when not playing.. The turbo works well for what it does, but I have not yet found the need to utilize it,this could perhaps be because in 3 weeks I am still not entirely comfortable with the stick,although I see improvement from me wanting to throw it out of the window when I was losing to inferior fighters simply from not yet having a full feel for the button layout!lol).. Moves become easier once you become accustomed to the sensitivity & execution of the stick itself.. & that brings me to the cons..
CONS…. 1st off, if you have little experience with arcade sticks, you will without a doubt struggle to pull of things from simple haduken type moves to ultras bc of how different the use of the D pad is from the stick(I mean yes the stick feels quality made, but the simple ultras like down forward down forward 3kick or punch become difficult at first because you will more than likely be inputting down forward, down down at first.. You really have to pay attention to your execution until you get used to it) .. I cant speak to the Square vs Octagon or circle gate, but I can tell you that your first few days will test your patience as you relearn to play a game you may have been on the way to mastering. The artwork while aesthetically pleasing is probably done a little on the cheap with a simple clear plastic frame screwed over painted cardboard, probably not a big deal as the stick itself feels solid, but for the price I have seen better quality art on the cover of sticks. Overall I think its a great stick and the price is coming down especially through amazon used.. the question is whether or not its worth it for you, if you’re a casual gamer that may not use it that often and has fun with the D pad, dont buy it you will be frustrated and waste money, but if your addicted and want to master a new vintage way to play and have the patience to practice go for it..

First off, this is an amazing arcade stick with great packaging. You can also mod this stick. There are quite a few resources on the net about this. do a search for Art’s Hobbies and Joystick in google to find out.
If you’re reading this review, and wondering, is this stick worth the price, the answer is yes. It’s a really expensive stick, that’s for sure, but you get what you pay for. If you’re a retrogamer like me and you spend hours playing not only fighting games but Pac-Man CE, Afterburner Climax, Final Fight DI, etc for the latest consoles, then you owe it to yourself to pick up one.
The Sanwa buttons aren’t concave like how you remember most US arcade machines, they are japanese styled, but this actually makes them faster to use, and you won’t regret it after using it. They’re very light and sensitive. It does take some getting used to to convert from a pad to this stick, but you’ll be happy you did.
As far as the square gate goes, it didn’t really give me any problems with QCF/QCB type moves. You just have to give it a bit to get used to it. The sticks look really great in your house when you have friends over, and if you’re enterprising you can toss the artwork and get artwork in there that is done custom (will probably void warranty tho). I imagine all kinds of players might want a PacMan, Robotron, Afterburner, Outrun, or even Taito Viewlix designs on there.
You can get really nice custom sticks out there for around 200 dollars, so if price isn’t a concern you might want to support your community instead of a corporation, but on the other hand you have it all right here. The price and availability does seem to fluctuate alot, so waiting might get you a cheaper stick.
To sum up, if you want quality but can’t afford it, put 20 dollars a week aside and in a little over a month you can invest in this stick which will last a long time, and will surely be worth it if you are into playing games the way they were meant to be played and not with the abomination of modern console pads.

so i played street fighter about 2 or 3 times a week not for more than an hour at a time…so pretty much not that much…and i purchased this fightstick caz i got tired of the old one i had….plugged it in one night…and it flashed for a second and sopped working….i would hold down the xbox button in the middle and it would flash for a second then it would go off again…im hoping that somebody could help me find out where i can try and get in contact with mad catz to see if there is anything they can do because i purchased this only a few months ago so i know its not because of ware and tare…thank you.

I work in the gaming industry and attend a lot of fighting game events and tournaments. This is simply the best stick you can buy (rather than make). I plan on replacing the buttons, gate, and artwork anyway, but all those are fantastic right out of the box. It comes with a 4-way gate which is good for charge characters, I think I will switch to an 8-way as it seems more versatile. The buttons are very responsive and fast, don’t rest your fingers on them! Turbo works well though I never use it. The lock switch is a nice feature, locks the Xbox, turbo, select and start buttons from being used in the heat of battle. The artwork is nice, right from the game. Overall it has a nice weight and feel to it. And no white side bumpers that to me just looked funny on previous versions. The rubber feet on the bottom are good too and have a good grip. My only complaint may be the wire compartment. It’s very nice that they’ve included this luxury to store the 13′ cord inside the stick, the compartment is barely big enough and the door to the compartment is flimsy; usually bursting at the seams. It hasn’t failed yet though so I suppose it’s ok. Great stick, real arcade feel, try a top scrolling shoot’em up for extra fun!
